Arriving in Kathmandu for the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is the exciting first step toward one of the world’s most iconic trekking adventures. The vibrant capital city offers a blend of ancient temples, bustling streets, and warm hospitality.
Our trekking adventure begins when we take a flight to Lukla which is the starting point of our trekking journey. Although it is a brief flight, it is bound to be one of the most memorable ones due to the breathtaking views of the Himalayas from the air. Ater reaching Lukla, we will start trekking towards Phakding village. Phakding is a small village situated along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River. It is surrounded by lush forests and offers stunning views of the hills. Known for its cozy teahouses, it serves as the first stop for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp.
After having breakfast and finishing our morning rituals, we are going to trek to Namche Bazar for approximately 6-7 hours. After crossing the scenic suspension bridges hanging over the Dudhkoshi river, our trail will lead us to Sagarmatha National Park, a vast area of natural beauty and landscapes. Namche Bazaar, often called the “Gateway to Everest,” is a vibrant Sherpa town nestled on a hillside. It offers modern amenities, including bakeries, shops, and internet cafes, alongside stunning views of Everest and other peaks. It’s also a popular acclimatization stop for trekkers.
Acclimatizing is the most important process for our bodies to adjust to changing high altitudes while trekking. We can spend our day in Namche Bazar by visiting the Sherpa Culture Museum or taking short hike to the viewpoints in order to enjoy the beautiful scenery. We can also visit the bakeries that serve pastries which is quite popular among tourists.
After a hearty breakfast, we will start trekking towards the narrow hilltop above Namche Bazar. There are not many steep ascents and descents today, giving plenty of time to concentrate on photography. After going through a leafy rhododendron forest, we will reach Tengboche where we can visit the famous Tengboche monastery, and we can also attend a service if we have enough time.
Today, we will follow Imja Khola before climbing up to Dingboche's windswept fields. While we approach Dingboche, we can see a large number of manistones arranged by the trailside. We can perfectly see Lhotse and Ama Dablam peaks while trekking up the trail.Dingboche is a beautiful village located at 4,410 meters, known for its expansive fields enclosed by stone walls. It offers stunning views of Ama Dablam and serves as a popular acclimatization stop for trekkers. The village provides teahouses and a peaceful environment.
With the ever-rising high altitudes, our bodies will need another day of acclimatization to adjust to the thinner atmosphere. We can spend this day by hiking to the vantage points of Nagarjun Hill or Chukhung Village for the stunning views of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other Himalayan mountains.
We will start our trek by gradually climbing to small settlements, yak pastures and alpine scrubs. We can clearly see the panoromic views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Kongma Tse and Taboche while trekking towards Lobuche. Lobuche is a small settlement at 4,940 meters, situated close to the Khumbu Glacier. It offers basic accommodations and serves as the last stop before Gorakshep. The area provides stunning views of Nuptse and other surrounding peaks.
Today, we will ascend to the viewpoint of Mount Everest. The trail takes us along a rocky glacial moraine before arriving in Gorak Shep. After having our lunch, we will move towards Everest Base Camp, our destination of the trek. We will begin to trace our steps back to Gorak Shep after soaking in the stunning views of Mount Everest and the Himalayas from the base camp.
This day is also filled with excitement as we will be ascending to the lookout point of Kalapatthar. This short early-morning trek will allow us to enjoy 360-degree views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Taboche, Thamserku, and many other legendary Himalayan peaks and glaciers. After this, we will descend back to Gorak Shep and continue trekking back to Pheriche.
After finishing our morning rituals and eating breakfast, we will begin our descent towards Namche Bazar through beautiful rhododendron woodlands. We will trace back our steps by following the Imja Khola.
Today is the last day of our adventurous trekking. We will begin our descent through a number of small villages, including Phakding, towards Lukla with a heavy heart of leaving such a majestic place.
After a great overnight stay at Lukla, we will start getting ready for our flight back to Kathmandu.This final night in Kathmandu represents a great opportunity to purchase some last-minute souvenirs and enjoy some fine dining at one of the city’s many great restaurants.
